The US Department of Labor recently announced that non-farm employment in America rose by 372,000 in June 2022. This number exceeded expectations with stories of the ‘Great Resignation’ and hiring challenges still in abundance. How does that compare with Gray’s Job Postings data? Let’s take a look:
Job Postings by Month
Job postings are down year over year, but remain extremely high compared to pre-pandemic levels. Going all the way back to March 2020, we see nearly 2.2 million postings. Our most recent data for June of 2022 shows almost 4.9 million; a 123% increase from the beginning of the Covid-19 era.
What jobs are in demand? Registered Nurse continues to be the most sought after profession in our database; in fact 4 of the top 10 most common job posting titles are in the healthcare fields:

Not surprisingly, online behemoth Amazon appears twice in our list of companies with the most job postings. Four of the top 15 are healthcare companies, confirming that industry’s continued robust growth and demands. Interestingly, Boeing, Lockheed Martin, and Northrup Grumman are all in our top 15.
The bottom line here is that job postings in our database remain extremely high, with healthcare, defense, and tech industries leading the pack. As wages rise, and inflation fears continue to permeate the ether, we’ll be sure to return to these data sets and share updates.
